Most Anticipated Games of Late 2026: Dates and What to Expect

GTA 6 lands November 19 after two delays. Here's the rest of the 2026 calendar, what already shipped, and why everything is late.

In November 2025, Rockstar Games did the thing studios usually avoid. It apologised in writing. The studio moved Grand Theft Auto 6 off its May 26, 2026 date and said it was "sorry for adding additional time" to the wait, as BBC News reported at the time. The new date was November 19, 2026. That sentence, and the date attached to it, now runs the entire holiday quarter.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
  1. 1
The anchor date: Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, 26 days from today and after two separate delays.
  2. 2
The two-week squeeze: Nintendo has dated the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 on November 5, which is the smartest piece of scheduling on the board.
  3. 3
Lateness is the pattern: Fable now lands February 23, 2027, and the Switch 2 build of 007 First Light slipped to March 18, 2027, nearly ten months after every other version.

The calendar is 26 days out. What's left is short, top heavy, and unusually exposed: two genuine blockbusters, a handful of remasters, and a set of 2027 dates that publishers have already started leaning on.

The Two Weeks That Decide the Holiday

Nintendo's contribution is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, rebuilt for Switch 2 and dated November 5. A 1998 game sold again at full price on Nintendo's newest hardware is a familiar move for the company, and it's the only release in the quarter with no direct competition for its audience.

Fourteen days later, GTA 6 arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar hasn't announced a Nintendo version, so the two biggest releases of the holiday barely touch the same shelf. Somebody in Kyoto read that calendar correctly.

The gap matters more than either date. A two-week runway gives Zelda a full news cycle before GTA 6's reviews, streams and server outages swallow everything. It also means Nintendo gets to be the story for exactly as long as it needs to be.

What Already Shipped Tells You What's Left

September was supposed to answer the question of whether a big single-player exclusive still moves hardware. Marvel's Wolverine, out September 15 from Insomniac, topped Circana's US sales chart for the month and posted the highest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published title since Helldivers 2 in February 2024. Ampere put it at 2.16 million copies, behind only EA Sports FC 27 for the month. PS5 hardware revenue rose 43 percent year on year.

Then the other half of the picture. Circana recorded total US spending across content, hardware and accessories down 1 percent for September. Put those figures side by side and the arithmetic does the talking: one exclusive lifted console revenue by 43 percent in the same month the overall category shrank, which means everything else on the shelf fell by more than a single point. The hit and the decline happened simultaneously, and the hit is what got reported.

The middle of that shelf is where the damage sits, and it's the same thinning out visible in the film business right now. Remedy's Control Resonant landed September 24 into the low-to-mid 80s on review aggregators, with PC performance complaints doing real damage to the conversation. IO Interactive's 007 First Light shipped May 27 on PS5, Xbox and PC, then left its Switch 2 version to rot until March 18, 2027. That's a ten-month split on a single title, and nobody at the publisher seems embarrassed by it.

The Delay Economy

Grand Theft Auto 5 shipped in September 2013. From that month to November 19, 2026 is 13 years and two months, roughly 158 months, for the second entry in the series since then. The gap between GTA 4 and GTA 5 was about five years. So the franchise has gone from a five-year cadence to something close to triple that, and the industry has reorganised its entire autumn around the longer number.

Fable is the cleaner example. Xbox confirmed in May that the reboot had moved out of its autumn 2026 window and into February 23, 2027, with Matt Booty announcing the shift on the Official Xbox Podcast. That's not a catastrophe. It's a rounding error in a schedule that now treats slippage as standard operating procedure.

A delay costs salary months. A bad launch costs the franchise. Every publisher has run that comparison and reached the same conclusion, which is why the 2027 calendar already looks crowded before 2026 has finished: Fable in February, the 007 Switch 2 build in March, and a queue behind both of them. The dates haven't stopped moving. They've just moved into next year.

What to Expect, Plainly

GTA 6 remains a trailer and a promise. Rockstar has announced modern-day Vice City inside a fictional state called Leonida, two leads in Jason and Lucia, and platforms. It has not put a playable build in front of press, and it has not explained why the game needed six more months beyond the word "polish." Treat every claim beyond the official material as fan fiction.

NOTE

Rockstar has announced GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC version or date exists yet, so if you game on PC, November 19 isn't your deadline. It's somebody else's.

Around the edges, the smaller bets are more interesting than they look. Phantom Blade Zero arrives October 29 on PS5 and PC with a wuxia aesthetic and a combat system built on parries. Rayman Legends Retold on December 6 is Ubisoft reaching for a platformer audience it spent a decade ignoring. Warhammer Survivors on November 10 is the latest proof that Games Workshop will license its universe to anything with a good pitch, and that this strategy keeps working.

Everything else on this list can slip into 2027 and survive. The November 19 date can't, which is why the most anticipated game of the decade is also the one with the least room left to be late.
